A colony with no manager finds short paths reliably, and the same algorithm now routes delivery vehicles, plans power lines, and schedules irrigation. Every route it shortens is fuel unburned. The deeper lesson is that decentralised search, given feedback, often beats central planning on problems too large to survey.
